About requests from ECHOLOT

If a visitor called EcholotCheck shows up in your server logs, someone checked your website with the visibility check by ECHOLOT.

What the check fetches

Per check the page that was entered, the files robots.txt, sitemap, llms.txt and security.txt, an address that does not exist to test the error page, and a few images and files of the page. In addition there are DNS lookups for your domain. Altogether about 25 requests.

How to recognise it

By EcholotCheck/1.0 in the user agent. If a website refuses this identifier, the check tries once with the identifier of an ordinary browser and says so in the result. Four further requests for the page carry the identifiers of GPTBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. They show whether a firewall turns these identifiers away.

What does not happen

The check fills in no forms and logs in nowhere. It only runs when someone enters an address, and at most 6 times per hour for the same domain.

Excluding your website

If you do not want your domain to be checked, write to us. We add it to the block list, after which the check refuses it.
